The 7th Continent, also called The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, is an area in the north of the Pacific Ocean where an enormous amount of plastic and other garbage drifts together (plastic soup).
When you stroll along the Dutch coast, you can stumble upon evidence of this Patch. It’s shocking to see how much garbage washes up on shore.
This is the inspiration for this 7-part photo series shot on the Hondsbossche Zeewering at Petten.
This photo series was made a year before the beach reclamation to strengthen the coast. The sea dyke has been transformed into an artificial dune landscape. Before the beach reclamation started, all the garbage, a number of truckloads full, was removed.
This photo project consists of 7 collages of 7×7 photos in 7 different colors.
